Contract awarded to Sinclair Knight Merz, Bloxam, Burnett & Olliver and
Halcrow to produce the master plan for improvements to CMJ.

Research and collation of background information begins.

standards of existing bridges.

Monitoring of existing traffic noise levels at 27 sites
around CMJ.

Development of initial concept plans for motorway realignment and the provision
of new motorway links.

Development of motorway alignment concepts to address the existing network deficiencies
and achieve the project objectives.

Final draft Scheme Assessment Report prepared and preferred layout identified within
the existing motorway boundaries.

Consultation meetings held with Auckland City Council, Auckland Regional Council
and other interested parties.

Two community open days held - members of the public invited to view plans of
the preferred layout and provide verbal and written feedback.

Project divided into 2 stages for the purposes of procuring the necessary
works. Stage 1 covers the area between the Symonds St over-bridge and
Gillies Ave. Stage 2 covers the 'core' Central Motorway Junction area
bounded by Wellington St to the north, Symonds St to the south and Bond
St on the Northwestern Motorway.
April 2002

Applications under the Resource Management Act (1991) are prepared and
submitted for CMJ Stage 1.

The Freeflow Alliance (the contracting organisation responsible for
construction of the Grafton Gully project) is requested to develop a
construction cost for CMJ Stage 1, following the development of preliminary
design and documentation by SKM.
June 2002

Planning and preliminary design for CMJ Stage 2 (the core area) continues.
July 2002
-
The Final Scheme Assessment Report for CMJ is delivered to Transit.
September 2002

Freeflow's target cost for CMJ Stage 1 is accepted by Transit and
construction work begins.

Expressions of interest sought from suitable contractors wishing to
tender for the CMJ Stage 2 works.

The Outline Plan and Resource Consent documentation as required by the
RMA submitted to ACC and ARC for CMJ Stage 2.

Three Contractor organisations selected to be invited to
submit tenders for construction of CMJ Stage 2.

Preparation of tender documents and Specimen Design continues
January 2003

Request for tenders issued to the 3 short-listed contractors for
the design and construct contract to build CMJ Stage 2.

A four month long interactive tendering process begins.
June 2003

Tenders returned.

Evaluation of tenders commences.

Preferred tender selected and discussions held prior to contract award.
October 2003

Contract for the construction of CMJ Stage 2 works awarded to Complete
Joint Venture (a joint venture between Fletcher Construction of NZ and Leighton
Contractors Pty from Australia).

Detailed design begins.

Construction work on site begins for CMJ Stage 2.
