Road Standards and Design Features

• Improved standard of median and edge barriers.
• Ability to dynamically manage the motorway considering traffic and bus priority requirements.
• Better connections with the central motorway improvements.
• Make best use of the unused traffic capacity of the Auckland Harbour Bridge by increasing the capacity of its approaches.

Geotechnical

• Most of this section of the motorway is built on reclaimed land.
• Geotechnical testing has taken place to consider groundwater flows and soil contamination.

Existing Services

• The Tunnel impacts on sewerage and stormwater pipelines and telecommunications cables.
• These services will be relocated as part of the project.

Constructability

• The Tunnel will be constructed while minimising disruption to traffic.
